Common questions
What files can I open?
Nice Markdown works with ordinary .md and .markdown files saved as UTF-8 text, which is the usual encoding. Other text encodings are not supported.
How do I save a change?
Choose Save when you are ready. The app does not save automatically. A change made in Visual view is written back to only the text or block you edited, such as one paragraph, list or table, and the rest of the file is kept as it was. An edited table may be tidied.
Can I view Mermaid diagrams?
Yes. A Markdown code block marked mermaid appears as a diagram in Visual view. Choose Edit on the diagram to change its text, or switch to Source. The diagram remains Markdown in the file.
What if another tool changes my open file?
If you have no unsaved edits, Nice Markdown reloads the file with a notice. If you also made changes, it shows your proposed Save text beside the disk version. You can use the disk version, keep your edits and save, or choose Save my edits as a copy. A copy leaves the original file and its conflict in place. The app does not merge the changes automatically.
Can I export a PDF?
Yes. File → Export to PDF uses the document’s visual rendering, including tables and Mermaid diagrams, with a small page-numbered footer. File → Print works the same way. Very wide tables are worth checking in the output.
How do I open a link in a document?
Hold Ctrl and click the link, or click the address shown when you hover over it. It opens in your default browser. A plain click places the cursor so you can edit the link text. Only web links open; other kinds show a notice instead.
Can I open several files at once?
Yes. In File → Open, select several files with Ctrl+click or Shift+click and each opens in its own tab. File → Close all tabs closes them together, asking about any unsaved changes first.
Does the app remember my settings?
Yes. The Light or Dark theme, whether the Outline is shown, the Normal or Wide layout, and the window size and position are kept between sessions. The first launch follows your Windows theme. Documents always open in Visual view.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No account. Nice Markdown works with Markdown files on your computer, with no cloud sync, built-in AI or collaboration service. See the Privacy & Legal page for what the app stores.
Will my unsaved draft reopen after I exit?
No. The app can reopen disk-backed tabs, but unsaved drafts and edits are not recovered.
Where can I download it?
Nice Markdown is coming soon. There is no public download or Store listing yet.
